The extension of the Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre near Heathrow will double the number of refugees held there. A report published by Dame Anne Owers, Chief Inspector of Prisons, states that the controversial extension will deteriorate the living conditions in the centre and lead to a 'prison-type accommodation, in small and … oppressive cells' (Robert Verkaik, The Independent, 26 May 2010)
